Scotland delivers RE framework
SCOTLAND, October 15, 2008. Scottish Renewables, the green energy trade body, has welcomed the launch of the Scottish Government’s renewable energy framework with a strong focus on delivering renewable heat alongside renewable electricity, but has called for close working between Holyrood and Westminster to deliver UK and Scottish renewable energy targets.
AMSC licenses technology to Hyundai

American Superconductor Corporation, has announced that it has licensed two of its proprietary wind turbine designs to South Korea-based Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Co., Ltd., the world’s largest shipbuilder, a global leader in turnkey power plants and offshore projects, and a major global supplier of high voltage electrical equipment.

EUROPE, October 10, 2008. The EU Environment Committee has backed the European Commission’s plans to reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions from most industrial sectors by 21% from 2005 levels by 2020, and phase out free emission permits leading to full auctioning.
AMSC partners with China’s XJ Group

Oxfam: “Forecast for Tomorrow”
OXFORD, UK, October 9, 2008. A new report from NGO Oxfam argues that the UK Government must work together with the public and private sectors, as well as turn away from high-pollution policies and projects that stand to jeopardise the UK’s carbon emissions reductions target.
UK advised to cut GHG by 80% in 2050
LONDON, UK, October 9, 2008. The UK Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has advised that the UK needs to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 80% in 2050, and that this is achievable at a cost of 1-2% of GDP in 2050.
Siemens and E.ON to build 207 MW offshore wind farm
ERLANGEN/DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY, October 9, 2008. E.ON has placed a €275 million order with Siemens Energy for the supply of 90 wind turbines for the 207 MW Rødsand II offshore wind farm off the coast of Denmark.
Vattenfall acquires AMEC Wind Energy
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, October 7, 2008. Vattenfall AB is acquiring 100% of AMEC Wind Energy Limited, a major UK developer of commercial wind farms for around £126.6 million.
Round 3 offshore wind farm tender opened
LONDON, UK, October 7, 2008. The British Crown Estate has issued an ‘Invitation to Negotiate’ to registered developers for the Round 3 offshore wind farm leasing programme for the delivery of up to 25 GW of new offshore wind by 2020.

US Congress passes PTC/ITC extensions
